Wondering if acupuncture is right for you?

Most people have heard of acupuncture but are you wondering if it could actually improve your health? Our Reno, NV, acupuncturist Dr. acupunctureChad Bachman has helped patients feel better, sleep better and live healthier, pain-free lives through acupuncture. Here are some of the top questions about acupuncture answered.

How does acupuncture work?
By inserting a series of thin needles into certain points on the body our acupuncturist stimulates the body’s natural release of endorphins, which reduces pain and inflammation while also boosting circulation and supporting a healthy hormonal system.

What conditions can acupuncture treat?
Both the World Health Organization and the National Institutes of Health recognize acupuncture as an effective way to treat and support a variety of health problems including but not limited to,

  • Musculoskeletal pain including back and neck pain, sciatica, neuropathy, muscle strains, muscle spasms, and fibromyalgia.
  • Gastrointestinal disorders and problems such as GERD, IBS symptoms, and nausea.
  • Headaches and migraines
  • Female disorders such as premenstrual syndrome, fibroid pain, morning sickness, pregnancy-related pain, gentle labor induction, and hot flashes.

Acupuncture also has the ability to promote better sleep to help those with insomnia, as well as improve symptoms of stress, anxiety and depression.

How many sessions will I need?
Most patients will benefit from getting multiple acupuncture sessions. Those dealing with chronic conditions may benefit the most from regular sessions once or two a week while those with acute conditions may require fewer visits and treatments. Regular weekly or monthly maintenance sessions can often patients with the long-term relief they need. This is something we can discuss during your initial consultation.

Will it hurt?
The needles used for acupuncture are very fine compared to traditional hypodermic needles; therefore, many patients experience little to no discomfort as acupuncture needles are inserted. Some people report feeling nothing while others may feel slight aching or tingling as the needles are inserted.

The needles will be left in the skin for anywhere for approximately 20-30 minutes depending on the treatment plan that’s been mapped out between you and our Reno, NV, acupuncturist.
